Mrs. Okner Update - Trimester 2
I have enjoyed my time home with Ben and he is growing a lot and doing great. I am so glad to be back in our classroom! It has been great getting to know all of my students. I have updated Story Town Online resources, please take a moment to try to log on with your student. Please let me know if you have any problems accessing your resources and I can help. I am looking forward to meeting with all of the parents who have signed up for conferences.
This is my 9th year teaching in New Lenox School District. I started my first year teaching 4th grade and then moved to 5th grade, and absolutely love it.
I received my Elementary Education degree from Illinois State University. While I was there I completed my student teaching in Pekin, IL. In 2010, I went back to school and received my Educational Administrative Degree from Governors State University.
My husband and I are residents of Homewood, IL and are building a home currently in Lockport. We plan on moving in January. We have a playful little kitty named Gizmo. I enjoy traveling, reading, and staying active. August 25th we are expecting our first baby. We are so excited to become parents and can't wait for the adventures ahead. Miss Hoiden will be my maternity substitute. We have spent a lot of time planning for the beginning of this year. I do plan on returning just before Parent Teacher Conferences, where I will get a chance to meet with you again.
This is my second maternity leave at Spencer Crossing. My first maternity leave was for Mrs. Buell in 6th grade. I had a great time teaching Language Arts and Social Studies. I recently graduated from Governors State University with my teaching certificate. I am very excited to spend the next few months getting to know you.
I, Like Mrs. Okner, grew up on the south side of Chicago. I currently live in Shorewood, IL. A few of my hobbies are reading, traveling, trying crafts I find on Pinterest, and spending time and with my family and friends. I also have two dogs, Jack and Lola, who keep me very busy.
During summer break, I traveled to our summer house near Lake Michigan in Michigan. My family and I had so much fun at the beach, blueberry picking, making s’mores around the campfire, and shopping in nearby towns. I’m eager to hear about the things you enjoyed during your summer vacation.
